BEYOND HER BODY PT2

Beyond Her Body pt2 - Building on the themes introduced in Beyond Her Body, this series continues to examine the pressures women face to conform to digital beauty standards. Using smeared makeup and bold red lipstick as recurring visual motifs, I introduced a new element: a pane of glass placed between the model and the camera. This glass acts as both a literal and symbolic barrier, distorting the model’s face to reflect the emotional and visual warping caused by social media. It represents the tension between authenticity and expectation, highlighting the way women are often compelled to reshape their appearance to align with curated ideals.

The second concept within this shoot was inspired by the often invisible manipulations made in post production and by beauty editors. From digital facelifts to the subtle reshaping of eyes and lips, these alterations mislead viewers into believing they are seeing natural beauty, when in reality, they are witnessing a digitally constructed illusion. To portray this, my assistant wearing white gloves reminiscent of a surgeon held various makeup tools around the model’s face as she remained still. This setup intentionally blurred the line between beauty routine and cosmetic procedure, drawing attention to how pervasive and clinical the pursuit of perfection has become.

Together, these images encourage the viewer to pause and question the version of reality presented online. Reflecting on the emotional toll that digital perfectionism places on real women and serve as a visual critique of a culture that values appearance over truth.
